【Domestic Substitution】Ambiton S-10: A Breakthrough in Domestic High-End Zinc Sulfide, Performance-Comparable to German Counterparts, Breaking the Monopoly Dependence on German Zinc Sulfide!

Zinc Sulfide S-10: Developed and produced by Yunfu Hongzhi New Materials Co., Ltd.via advanced technology, it undergoes organic modification to become a multi-functional white pigment with a blue undertone. It features a refractive index of 2.37, a Mohs hardness of 3.0 (relatively low), and high thermal conductivity.

S-10 ensures the mechanical properties of materials are well retained. Compared with titanium dioxide, it provides barrier protection in Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastics (GRPs) and reduces glass fiber scratches. As a white pigment with lubricating properties, S-10 can protect molds from wear when applied in thermoplastic plastics.

The following test involves four formulas: Standard Formula, Formula A (with 4% Titanium Dioxide Masterbatch), Formula B (with 6% German Zinc Sulfide Masterbatch), and Formula C (with 6% S-10 Zinc Sulfide Masterbatch). Their mechanical properties were tested and compared when applied in glass fiber-reinforced nylon plastic systems.

·Experimental Conclusion

When Ambiton New Materials' Zinc Sulfide S-10 is applied in glass fiber-reinforced nylon plastic systems, its mechanical properties are significantly superior to those of formulas using titanium dioxide. Additionally, the mechanical properties of formulas using S-10 zinc sulfide are basically consistent with those using German counterparts, achieving cost reduction and efficiency improvement.

As shown in the above test data, when German zinc sulfide and S-10 zinc sulfide (as white pigments) are added in equal amounts to glass fiber-reinforced polypropylene composites (PP+22%GF), comparisons between Ambiton S-10 zinc sulfide and German zinc sulfide reveal:

· Almost no difference in Melt Flow Index (MI)
· Close Heat Distortion Temperature (HDT)
· Comparable tensile strength
· Identical elongation at break and flexural strength
· Slightly lower flexural modulus
· Consistent notched impact strength
· Negligible difference in ash content

Zinc Sulfide (ZnS) is commonly used as a white pigment in glass fiber-reinforced polypropylene (PP+GF) composites. Its main functions in this material system include:

1.Enhancing Compatibility:
Zinc sulfide can improve the compatibility between glass fiber and the PP matrix.

2.Optical Properties:
As a white pigment closest to titanium dioxide, zinc sulfide can improve the optical appearance of products without affecting other material properties or hiding power. It is also preferred for products requiring infrared transmission.

3.Mechanical Properties:
With a Mohs hardness of only 3.0 (compared to 6.0-6.5 for titanium dioxide), zinc sulfide does not scratch glass fibers, better maintaining fiber length and thus enhancing tensile strength and impact performance.

The results of the two experiments above indicate that the performance and quality of Ambiton S-10 Zinc Sulfide can basically replace German Zinc Sulfide!
